A very large Japanese ceramic black beckoning cat (maneki neko) from the Wikawa region. The manekineko, or beckoning cat, is a popular mascot to many traditional stores and families in Japan; its raised paw beckoning in good fortune and prosperity. The cat sits on its haunches with it left paw raised. The painted cat wears a collar tied in the back. The maneki neko has a short bobbed tail, as is customary with the indigenous Japanese mike cat.
