Hanami, cherry blossom viewing, the subject of countless poems and paintings, and one of the most anticipated and beloved traditions of both aristocrats and commoners. Hanami is a custom which has a been a constant thread woven through Japanese history and is still hugely popular to this day, as much for the social gatherings of food and drink as for the beauty of the blossoms.
