A heavily weathered Philippine molave wood (Vitex parviflora) round stand. The round disc with slightly lenticular cross section giving a slight domed surface. Molave wood is a very dense hardwood commonly used in tools and mechanisms where durability was required. The wood when freshly cut is blond, but when heavily weathered turns grey and gains deeply grained surface. Earlier 20th century 28½” diameter x 2½” high
