An unusual Japanese lenticular shaped lacquered wood tobacco tray. The tray carved using bold radiating carved channels, covered in a dark red lacquer, and black lacquer rim. Tobacco, a luxury item in Japan, was often offered to guests in a tobacco set. This unusual shaped tray would have held utensils to smoke including a pipe, fire chopsticks, pipe holder and hibachi to light the pipe. The tray with losses and wear from use and age.
