TEA ROOM LANTERN
A Japanese tankei, or tea-room lantern, with a trapezoidal base and fitted beveled lid; and a rectangular stem rising to a yahazu or arrow-notch top; the stem supporting on its front face an armature for a circular and oblong shade. Of wood and bronze finished in roiro or mirror-polished black lacquer, the shade of washi or Japanese paper. Electrified when made in the early 20th century with electrical cord and fittings.
